The Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS) in collaboration with Policy Solutions and Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Budapest cordially invite you to their joint conference, entitled:
THE STATE OF POPULISM IN EUROPE IN 2017
Date: 16 November 2017 (Thursday), 17.30-19.30
Venue: Hotel Intercontinental (Apáczai Csere J. u. 12-14., Budapest, 1052)
In many European countries public discontent against traditional political parties and democratic institutions has been rising. In an effort to shed a deeper understanding of the root causes of this crisis and what progressives should do to counteract this phenomenon we have invited experts from various EU member states to present the situation of their respective countries. We will also present the first result of FEPS and Policy Solutions’ yearlong pan-European analysis of over 80 populist parties and movements under the auspices of the Populism Tracker, and debate on whether the expansion of populist parties has halted or rather advanced in most EU countries.
Speakers of the conference include:
Nicole LOEW, Policy fellow, Das Progressive Zentrum, Germany
Jussi PAKKASVIRTA, Professor, University of Helsinki, Finland
Zita GURMAI, Vice President of FEPS, Hungary
Luigi TROIANI, Professor, Fondazione Pietro Nenni, Italy
Jan Niklas ENGELS, Head of Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung's Budapest office, Germany
Tamas BOROS, Co-director, Policy Solutions, Hungary
Moderator: Krisztina BOMBERA, Journalist, ATV Television Chanel
